ALICE HAMILTON

Alice is Associate Director at Hampstead Theatre where her productions include The Memory of Water, The Dumb Waiter, The Harmony Test, Out of Season, Nineteen Gardens and Olivier-nominated Every Day I Make Greatness Happen.​

Between 2011 and 2018 she was Co-Artistic Director of touring theatre company, Up in Arms, which she created with the writer, Barney Norris. Productions for the company include Norris’ award-winning play Visitors starring Linda Bassett which had a sell-out run at the Arcola before transferring to the Bush Theatre, Eventide (Arcola and tour) and While We’re Here (Bush and tour). She has also directed critically-acclaimed revivals of Robert Holman’s German Skerries and David Storey’s The March on Russia in co-production with the Orange Tree Theatre.

She has worked most prominently in new writing – premiering work by Judith Burnley, Neil D'Souza, Peter Gill, Matt Grinter, Dusty Hughes, Annie Jenkins, Magdalena Miecznicka, Richard Molloy, Barney Norris and Eugene O’Hare alongside UK premieres of plays by Austin Pendleton and Marc-Emmanuel Soriano. As director and dramaturg she has led development workshops and rehearsed readings for the Almeida, Royal Court, Soho Theatre and National Theare Studio.

In 2023, Alice was a recipient of the Olwen Wymark Award, presented by the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain to recognise people who have supported and encouraged new play writing.
